How to Detect Antivirus 2008 & Antivirus 2009
You can always search your PC manually, which will take up to a few hours depending on the number of files and folders you have on your computer, however, there are ways to kill two or three birds with one stone. If you do decide to run a scan on your PC, I would suggest that you follow these steps:
- Click on Start Menu ([Windows Logo Here] Start), the green button on the left-hand side of the Taskbar at the bottom of your Monitor screen.
- Click ‘Search,’ the magnify glass icon on the right of the menu
- Select ‘All Files and Documents’ (this will tell the search tool to perform a complete search)
- In the section where it says ‘All or Part of the File Name,’ type ‘antivirus2008′ or ‘antivirus2009′
- Click Search…
This will basically let you know wether or not the software is on your PC. Do not delete, instead, save yourself the time and headache of deleting files, folders, and registry files.
Common Symptoms:
- Pop-ups: XP Antivirus 2009, Microsoft Antivirus 2008 scanner automatically pops up from time to time and warns you of possible PC threats and prompts you to purchase the software.
- Online browsing interruptions, browser freezes, home page hijack (home page is changed to another website instead of the one you set)
- Computer crashes, freezes, ect.

I also suggest that you look in to getting a ‘Complete Internet Security’ program package. I highly recommend Kaspersky Internet Security. I have been using them for years and can honestly say that I have never had an issue. My second recommendation would be ESet NOD32 alongside Panda Internet Security another great option.
